ERIC ROBERTS
A CARING HEARTp
by: Lisa Steinberg
Q. What are some of the recent projects that you've been working on?
A. I shot an Akon video with Eminem, I have also done three movies lately: The Butcher, Contamination and Killer Weekend.
Q. What can you tell us about the premise for the film DOA and about your character?
A. I create superwomen from the actresses in the film, and then try to capitalize on their super powers.
Q. What made you want to be a part of this project?
A. I wanted to see China and I liked the cast and director. Plus, they had a distribution deal to be shown in theatres in the US. Now, it looks like it may not go into theatres. I was offered "Dancing With The Stars" at the same time, and they even offered to do the dance training in China. My wife, Eliza, who is also my manager, tried every which way to make it work, but there were just a few days I would need to leave China early to shoot "Dancing." As it turned out, we didn't even shoot DOA those days. Those are the frustrations of our business.
Q. Do you have a really memorable moment from your time filming?
A. The food was terrible but the people were great. Rich people really need to share their wealth so much more than they presently do, it's not even funny. There is heartbreaking poverty in China. Every place on earth needs help. It's our job to help each other and ourselves.
Q. What about your role in the movie was challenging for you?
A. The stunts and the stylized language.
Q. Why should viewers take the time to check out DOA?
A. Exciting cast. Fun, fast moving movie, not that I've seen it, I only saw it in looping.
Q. You recently have appeared in many music videos, what makes that kind of work so appealing?
A. How contemporary they are and how fast they come out. It's like instant gratification.
Q. What is it about the Raise Your Glass For A Cure campaign that makes it so important to you?
A. Wow - So much. I love Scott Lew and his family. With our heartless, idiot of a president and his helpers standing in the way of stem cell research, programs like this are badly needed. I support Raise Your Glass because the music was great also - Keaton Simons and Tracey Ullman. Kevin Cronin from REO Speedwagon was one of the surprise guests to play. Back to Bush for a sec: He believes that every fetus should be born only to go kill and die less than two decades into the life he so magnanimously insures them, or to die of curable diseases because he doesn't believe in the cure. What a sadist.
Q. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A. I love to read, I watch football on my TIVO and I love to laugh. I rarely let my wife drag me to the movies, though she tries hard to do just that.
Q. Do you have a latest obsession?
A. Child Abuse Prevention and Animal Rescue. I'm obsessed with the vegan food prepared for me by A Catering Co. You can find them at acateringco.com.
Q. Are you into any particular book or activity?
A. The books Bush On The Couch and A Voice Above The Din by Stephen Hill. I adore professional football and I love the band of Keaton Simons, more than any band I've ever heard, and I'm into music.
Q. What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A. Thanks for listening! Thanks for wading through so many unnecessary movies of mine just to get to a few good moments.
